There are some fantastic tracks in the North Island notably the Waikaremoana Circuit, Tongariro Crossing. The South Island is even better with awesome scenery and sections of wildneress all over the place. Some of the more famous tracks are the Heaphy, Milford, Rees Dart and Routeburn. But there are hundreds of tracks to choose from and you can find everything from easy coastal walks to traversal of alpine passes.
